The Correct Syringe Needle is Neccessary for Proper Performance

Syringe needle diameter and needle tip shape are important for Microseal compatibility.  A 23 gauge needle is necessary to seal the port properly during injection.  A cone tip is preferred to gently push open the duckbill valve. (See How the Microseal Works) These features are shown in the figures below. Other syringe features such as barrel and plunger configuration are important for autosampler compatibility. Do not use needles designed for piercing ordinary rubber septa

Sharp edged or sharp pointed needles can pierce and damage the duckbill seal.  The 23-26 gauge tapered needles will not seal the injection port properly because the 26 ga part of the needle opens the duckbill before the 23 ga part can seal with the O-rings.
